I wanna change my FVD Speed Dial's search engine to google search engine
I don't need MyStart search engine...
Could someone give step-by-step instructions on how to make Google the default search engine when using FVD Speed Dial? It's using Yahoo and I don' t like that. I don't understand exactly how to do that.
Use Chrome Settings (click the 3 vertical dots for the Chrome menu, select "Settings", near the bottom of the drop-down menu). The third section of settings is "Search engine". The first line in this section reads "Search engine used in the address bar", and the selected search engine is shown. To the right of the name of the currently-selected search engine is a drop-down arrow, which displays a list. On my system, the list shows "Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ask, & AOL".
The second line in the "Search engine" section is "Manage search engines", which offers other possibilities.
You can also click on "address bar" in the text on that line; it's a hyperlink that brings up the Google Chrome Help page.
how do you do it for chrome?

CTRL/CMD F, search "http://" and find the link, replace the link (in quotes) to "https://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1#complete=1&q="

--Firefox on OS X--
Line 3: //const URL = "http://flashvideodownloader.org/addon_search/?type=instant_search&from=ff_fvdsd&q=%query%";
Line 4: const URL = "https://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1#complete=1&q=%query%";
Line 5262: //parent.document.location = "http://flashvideodownloader.org/addon_search/?q="+encodeURIComponent(searchText)+"&from="+key;
Line 5263: parent.document.location = "https://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1#complete=1&q="+encodeURIComponent(searchText)+"&from="+key;
I included the original line above (commented out) the lines I changed. It both auto-completes and directs to google now. there might be some cosmetic text lingering about in other places, but this is the basic functionality you want.

For Chrome : go to the directory js\newtab\ and edit file speeddial_misc.js
Aproximately line 52, replace "var url = "http://flashvideodownloader.org/addon_search/?q="+encodeURIComponent( document.getElementById("q").value )+"&from=chrome_fvdsd" by "var url = "https://www.google.fr/#q="+encodeURIComponent( document.getElementById("q").value )+"
And it's works

Yes, why the yahoo live thingy stick with google
in newer versions, it seems that Google is the default search engine if you click the search button, but if you, like me, don't like the annoying Yahoo live search that also pops up while typing in the search box, go to:
and delete the livesearch.js file & restart Firefox to get rid of the Yahoo live search.
i also want this, i dont use google i use duckduckgo.com
This extension would be about perfect, if I didn't have to go into the js files to make changes in order to choose a default search engine... as explained by Peep below.
Thanks Peep :)
Have no "CREATE DIAL" in FF 17 for MAC
Tried everything can think of --- un & reinstalled several times
Can not use Speed Dial feature at all
WHY NO ADD TO TOP SITES BUTTON ? --- makes things very simple
yes please, or perhaps the ability to change the search engine to whatever i like.... thanks!
i DID find the comments below to be extremely helpful in the mean time....
BTW it will change most likely with each update so just save the orig line and when it's updated you can search for it quickly and replace it again or disable updates.
Line 4378 http://www.google.com/#hl=en& Just replace the current link in the quotation marks and it will be fine. You can change it to anything you prefer ;)
Also save a backup of the file just in case you screw up. If it's not on line 4378 just use the search command on notepad++ and search for "search" it should be the 3rd result.
